Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes tonight.. The great thing about this recipe is you make it as is or modify as I did tonight (in parentheses) This recipe makes about 6-7 "Joes" in my house of various portions for my aged crew of kids :))

Sloppy Joes

Hamburger Buns (whole wheat sandwich rounds)

1 lb Gr Beef (or Gr Turkey)

1 small onion chopped

1 garlic clove

1 14oz can diced tomato (or 1 can of diced tomato w/onion and garlic and then you can drop onion/garlic if you like!)

1T Worcestershire

1/2 c Ketchup

2T Mustard

2T Brown Sugar

2T W vinegar

Salt

Cheese of choice

Preheat oven 350. Brown meat (if using turkey drizzle a little oil in nonstick skillet) with onion & garlic. Drain fat if necessary. Add ketchup, mustard, worcestershire, br. sugar, vinegar, and simmer 15 minutes. Taste and salt as needed. place bottom half of buns on cookie sheet (parchment paper is a plus here!) Scoop a healthy portion onto bun and sprinkle 2T or a slice of cheese on top. (we used mexican blend) Bake 8-10 min until cheese is melted.

The kids always smoosh the top bun on top, while the grown ups tend to dine open faced. Either way this makes a great little meal! My open faced portion was 283 calories & 20G protein and you don't feel slighted at all! Delish! Enjoy!
